Conjunction: বাক্যের আঠা - গল্পে পড়ি

এই পাঠের তথ্য উৎস মিলিয়ে লেখা ও প্রথমবার যাচাই করা হয়েছে; কয়েক দিন পর দ্বিতীয়বার যাচাই চলছে। কোথাও ভুল চোখে পড়লে নিচের “ভুল জানান” বাক্সে লিখুন।

“আমি পড়লাম, আমি পাশ করলাম।” দুটো বাক্য আলাদা পড়ে আছে। মাঝে একটা and বা so বসালেই জুড়ে যায়। বাক্য বা শব্দ জোড়া লাগানোর এই আঠাই Conjunction।

তিন দল

Coordinating	সমান মর্যাদার দুই অংশ জোড়ে	for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
Correlative	জোড়ায় জোড়ায় বসে	either…or, neither…nor, both…and, not only…but also
Subordinating	অধীন clause-কে মূল clause-এর সাথে জোড়ে	because, although, if, unless, since, lest, until

কৌশল: সাতটা coordinating conjunction মনে রাখুন FANBOYS দিয়ে: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So।

জোড়া শব্দ: BCS-এর প্রিয়

শুরু	জোড়া	উদাহরণ
No sooner	than	No sooner had he arrived than it started raining.
Hardly / Scarcely	when / before	Hardly had I reached when the bus left.
Though / Although	yet (ঐচ্ছিক), but নয়	Though he is poor, (yet) he is honest.
Lest	should	Walk carefully lest you should fall.
Not only	but also	He is not only smart but also kind.
Such / So	that	He was so tired that he slept.

Verb কার সাথে মিলবে

either…or আর neither…nor-এ verb মেলে কাছের subject-এর সাথে: Neither the teacher nor the students were present. কিন্তু both…and-এ verb সবসময় plural: Both Rahim and Karim are here.

পরীক্ষার ফাঁদ

No sooner-এর পরে when লেখা। সঠিক than।
Hardly-এর পরে than লেখা। সঠিক when বা before।
Though…but লেখা। Though-এর পরে but বসে না।
lest-এর পরে not দেওয়া: ~~lest you should not fall~~। lest নিজেই “যাতে না” বোঝায়।
